  1. Animals should not be kept in zoos, because they are mistreated and do not live in their actual habitat. PETA states that zoos cannot replicate the exact habitat that the animals use to live in which makes them lose their wildlife abilitie (Animals Out of Zoos). Most people would say zoos are educational and fun, but they don’t really know what happens to the animals. Animals are mistreated almost every day if they cannot perform their activities that day (Animals Out of Zoos). Animals should then be release back into their natural habitats where they can survive at a better rate.

  2. New students often find technology as their enemy while attending college. Nothing should be further from the truth. "Technology is always created to make our lives easier"(Licht A3). Technology is making college life more convenient than ever before. According to Jeremy, "Students are able to access wireless internet throughout campus and connect via itunes to aceess a whole collection of lectures downloadable via podcast"(150). Instead of attending crowded lecture halls, wasting time, and gas students can attend lectures at anytime that is convenient and at any location. Students should embrace the change and start making technology their ally.

  4. Why We Need A Parking Ramp.

If you ask most people they believe that regardless of the parking expansion that we need a parking ramp.
Accarding to the Wooduck Times there is an 18% increase in students this semester. That's beyond what the school planned in having for the new expansion that they had. With the new expansion according to the Century Parking Committee there are only 180 additional spaces on the west campus to park.

  5. "Sixty-five percent of college students prefer mechanical pencils over lead pencils"(Dickens 53). This shouldn't be a suprising fact due to the advantages of using mechanical pencils. Mechanical pencils have proven to be more child proof than your traditional lead pencils. In an interview Cindy Crawfords book *Child Proof*, a mother of a 5 year-old, James states that, lead pencils can be potentially dangerous because they can be easily chewed upon(Crawford 103).

  6. Are the Vikings better off with Brett Farve as the starting quarterback? Brett Farve does have the record for passing and touchdowns, but also, he holds the record for most interceptions. Now that he had surgery on his shoulder, he will be more accurate in his passing and going through less pain. Some people argue that signing his isn't worth is because of his age.

In 2007 Michael Vick convicted of dog fighting (“Return of the Dog Fighter”). Now, In 2009 Michael Vick has returned to the field and is playing for the Philadelphia Eagles. His return is the source of much debate. ‘Michael Vick had served his time and is sorry for his offenses.” Chris Berman (“Vick Allegations”) I feel that Michael Vick has a right to return to the field. True, we need to be able to look up and respect our celebrities, but they also have a right to continue their jobs like any other human being.

  9. Why the Driving Age Should Be Eighteen
By Hanna Hudson and Morgan Marcotte

All the excuses in the world cannot make up for a dented fender caused by careless driving. Through many research statistics, studies show that over 75% of insurance claims are filed by drivers ages sixteen to nineteen (Marson 90). This is just one reason why raising the driving age to eighteen would not only keep us all safer on the road, but would have the potential of saving money. Nineteen year old student Hanna Hudson comments, "By raising the driving age to eighteen, I think it would allow kids to be kids and not try to take on adult responsibilities before they are legally reccognized as adults." Although some may claim that it would take away some much needed independence at sixteen, overall it would keep our younger generation safer in order to provide a better future for us all.

  11. US officials declared Micheal Jacksons death was a homicide, when other claim it was an accidental death. Some claim Micheal Jacksons family doctor was perscribing Jackson with vicodin that may have caused his death, along with other perscribed drugs. Micheal Jackson's family, states that Micheal was a healthy happy individual. Others say Micheal was a depressed pop star. However, officails are not confirming their assumptions.

    Fast Food
Obesity is one of the leading causes of today American’s death. The two factors that influence obesity in America are the lack of excise, and fast food. “Live to eat or eat to live” (Tint 30). That is the question concerning fast food restaurant because not only are they affordable but tasty as well! Fast food exploded around the 1990 era. Inspire by the can goods used in battleground, the tradition continued. Food inspector Jackson conclude, “younger generations favor the idea of fast pace” (250), therefore the existence of fast food is still absolute.

Violence in video games is not turning America’s youth into psychopathic killers because there is little scientific evidence proving a link between the two. In one article, Patrick Kierkegaard of the University of Essex, England states “With millions of sales or violent video games, the world should be seeing an epidemic of violence. Instead, we see the opposite” (Kierkegaard). I agree with this statement because I have played violent video games in the past and have never thought of doing any harm to anyone. Even though violent video games maybe affect some people, that doesn’t mean that it will affect everyone playing them. If parents would be more aware of what their children of what they are playing these days then maybe there would be less worry about if a game is too violent or not. In another article, Rick Nauert writes “Through two online surveys and four experimental studies, the researchers showed that people stayed glued to games mainly for the feelings of challenge and autonomy they experience while playing”(Nauert). There is more to video games than mindless violence and bloodshed. Violence in video games is not turning America’s youth into psychopathic killers because there is more scientific evidence proving there is no link between them.

  14. If you had a major illness, would you seek healthcare here in the U.S. or elsewhere? Many Americans think that the healthcare systems in European countries that are more socialist are better than the open healthcare system in the United States. In general this is believed to be the case because their governments pay for their healthcare costs. According to Jon Anderson, specialist at Global Healthcare Research Corporation, “the true cost of healthcare is actually paid for by all the individuals who receive the healthcare. The perceived benefits of free healthcare are lessened by the fact that taxes increase and care is often less timely or available” (10). It’s a fact that people are more likely to seek professional medical treatments for minor ailments when there’s no co-payment due at the point of service. The result of this thinking is an overload of patients at clinics and urgent care centers. “People in true need of these services often do not receive the urgent attention that they require” (Jones 17). With these things in mind, would you support a socialist healthcare system?

    Hidden Intellectualism

    1. In his essay “Hidden Intellectualism,” Gerald Graff tries to show that schools need to concentrate on more than just book smarts, and start to tap into students that are very street smart.
    2. One of his first points is that schools tend to look at street smarts as a non-intellectual matter. This may cause the students to not do as well because they are not working on topics that interest them. His second point is that book smart people tend to form cliques with similar people, while street smart people tend to have the ability to connect with anyone they choose to.
3.Gerald Graff would agree with Steven Johnson’s article ”Watching TV Makes You Smarter,” because it talks about all these shows and how they teach you interesting things about life. This goes hand in hand with street smarts being a good thing because these things are not always going to be able to be found in books. In the show All in the Family and Rhoda they tackle complex social issues; Graff would agree and begin to argue that a person with less street smarts would be in a less likely issue to tackle that successfully, because they are too focused on their intelligence and not able to connect with people as easily. Graff would agree with Amy Goldwasser’s article “What’s the Matter with Kids Today?” He would agree, because he tries to defend how street smarts are so important in today’s society, and her article tries to show how the internet and other new forms of entertainment are providing a source for children to learn more appealing information.
